  • Naturalization Ceremonies

    Assist new citizens with one of their first acts of patriotism: registering to vote!

    Volunteer Activities:

    • Attend the Naturalization Ceremony.

    • Upon conclusion, engage with new citizens to address questions related to the voter registration process and upcoming elections.

    • Provide alternate instructions or review forms upon completion and share what to expect upon submission.

    When/Where:

    US Citizenship & Immigration Services Field Office - Weekly administrative ceremonies are generally held Tuesdays through Thursdays; 10 am, 12 pm and/or 2 pm.

    Holiday City Hall - Thursday, May 9, 10:00 am

    U.S. District Courthouse - Tuesday, May 14, Tuesday, June 18, Tuesday, Augus 13- 9:00 a.m., 11 am & 1 pm

  • Community Event Tabling

    Register and educate voters and promote the mission of the League while taking in the sights and sounds of festive, community events.

    Volunteer Activities:

    • Registering new voters and confirming registration status

    • Engaging with the public regarding upcoming elections, while providing resources and information needed to prepare citizens to cast their ballot

    • Sharing information on the mission and work of the League

    • Assisting as needed in transporting supplies; setting up/break down of booth (first/last shifts only)

  • Student Voter Registration

    Build the political power of young people in partnership with local high schools, universities and colleges.

    Volunteer Activities:

    • Working with student government and campus organizations to identify opportunities to boost student civic engagement and participation through voter registration drives

    • Assisting to determine related communication and promotional strategy

    • Staffing League table (register voters, address questions related to local election timeline/locations and share information about the League mission/work)

    When/Where:

    • University of Utah, Marriott Library - September 17, 10:00 a.m. - 2:10 p.m.

  • Candidate Forums

    Enable citizens to hear from candidates on issues important to their communities in a nonpartisan setting that promotes civil discourse.

    Volunteer Activities:

    • Working with community councils and other allies to organize forums focused on key County Council and School Board races in Salt Lake, Summit and Wasatch counties

    • Determining target issues and question strategy for each race

    • Crafting candidate communication/promotion strategy for each event

    • Coordinating AV and live-streaming support for the venue with event hosts

    • Setting up venue to support forums (candidate meet/greet and League tables) and timekeeping

    • Staffing League table (register voters, address questions related to local election timeline/locations and share information about the League mission/work)

  • VOTE411 On-Line Voters Guide

    As the League's one-stop election information site, VOTE411 has long been a trusted source for objective and nonpartisan election information. Help us ensure Utah voters have access to personalized voting and candidate information in order to cast an informed ballot this election year.

    Volunteer Activities:

    • Engaging with the public regarding upcoming elections, while providing resources and information needed to prepare citizens to cast their ballot 

    • Developing questions for local candidates to respond to for the VOTE411 guide (via Zoom);

    • Calling or texting candidates in advance to urge their participation and following-up as needed to remind them to respond and to address any questions (from home/self-paced); and

    • Helping craft strategies to boost candidate participation and voter awareness.

  • Voting Door Hanger Campaign

    Provide voters the info they need to participate in our elections and make their voices heard.

    Volunteer Activities:

    • Help design Voting Door Hangers with county-specific, election information in English and Spanish.

    • Go door-to-door in traditionally lower voter turnout districts, leaving a Voting Door Hanger at each residence. There’s no door knocking or contact involved.

    • Invite friends and family to join you in this fun way to boost voter participation.

  • Youth Civic Education & Engagement

    Increase understanding and participation of young people in our democracy through instruction of our "Power Your Vote" democracy class in local high schools as well as engagement of students in conducting on-campus voter registration drives through the Student Ambassador program. Boost students' commitment to being engaged citizens and voters for life!.

    Volunteer Activities:

    Power Your Vote (PYV) Course

    • Help develop and maintain PYV lesson plans and course materials.

    • Solicit involvement of administrators and teachers across target Salt Lake and Summit County school districts.

    • Instruct PYV classes in high schools as well as in vocational/non-traditional program settings during school hours.

    • Assess post training teacher/student survey data for feedback/suggestions.

    • Assist in course revisions and developing additional lesson plans, as needed, covering advanced topics.

    Student Ambassador Program

    • Develop Ambassador program to support on-campus, student-led voter registration.

    • Help solicit student interest in the program and conduct related training.

    • Research additional ways to engage and motivate students to take an active role in educating peers about the importance of registering to vote and becoming an informed voter.

    When/Where:

    Committee meetings via Zoom as needed. PYV course instruction and Ambassador training to take place on campus during school hours. Assignments based on volunteer availability and interests.
