Here’s What League Members Can Do!

The League of Women Voters of Salt Lake - Wasatch Back, is a grassroots, nonpartisan organization working to protect and expand voting rights and ensure everyone is represented in our democracy.

Here are a few ways that members get involved in the organization:

Help register  new voters at naturalization ceremonies, community events, and campuses and schools.

  • Plan candidate forums and voter guides to help residents make informed choices in local elections.

  • Monitoring local government to promote transparency and accountability.

  • Attend small-group discussions and public presentations to learn more about current issues.

Why I Joined the League

“I joined the League of Women Voters more than ten years ago as a social endeavor. I liked the idea of being part of a women’s organization, but I quickly learned the League is a welcoming place for anyone who cares about strengthening our democracy.

My belief in voting access started young. My first letter to my congressman was about giving eighteen-year-olds the right to vote. Even then, during the Vietnam War, it felt wrong that young people could be drafted without having a say. And like so many people, I grew up thinking voting was complicated.

That’s part of why the League has meant so much to me. The work we do helps take the mystery out of voting. Helping people understand the process, their ballot, and where to find trustworthy, nonpartisan information can change everything. I’ve watched people become more confident and more willing to participate when someone simply takes the time to help.

Being part of this mission has become deeply meaningful to me, and I’m grateful for the people and purpose I found here.”

“As a young mom living in Massachusetts, I was looking for a way to make a difference in my community. I found it in the League. Fast forward 30 years: I retired and joined LWVSL, and that same spark was still there. What I’ve always appreciated is connecting with women from many professional disciplines and walks of life who feel a personal responsibility to do what is right and necessary and are driven to get involved.

I love the League’s non-partisan approach. It means we keep the door open to everyone. Our positions are fact-based, reliable, and trustworthy.

Born from the fight for women's suffrage, we know democracy only works when it works for everyone.”
