The League of Women Voters of Salt Lake 33rd Annual State of the Community Luncheon is a two-fold purpose—to spotlight an important issue in our community and to raise funds for mobilizing voters to preserve our democracy.

Our 2026 luncheon theme is From Arrival to Belonging: How New Americans Strengthen Utah Communities, with keynote speaker Katie Donoviel, executive director of the English Skills Learning Center. The event is Thursday, April 16, 2026, at noon at the Salt Lake City Hilton.

For 33 years, our State of the Community Luncheon has highlighted important issues in Salt Lake and surrounding counties. This year, we are focusing on immigration to help our community move beyond divisive rhetoric and understand the facts of immigration in our area, the realities new Americans face, the support they need, and the ways that supporting them strengthens our democracy.

We will also be presenting two annual awards: Making Democracy WorkTM, which honors an organization or individual whose work upholds the values of a vibrant democracy, and Community Service, which acknowledges significant contributions of an organization or individual to the health and wellbeing of the Salt Lake community.

Our 2026 luncheon focus is to raise funds for Unite and Rise 8.5—the League’s initiative to engage and mobilize 8.5 million voters to protect our democracy at a time of constitutional crisis. Locally, this means activating 39,000 voters in Salt Lake, Summit, and Wasatch counties through expanded voter registration, education, and outreach—including unprecedented publicity for our Vote411 voter guide.
